Filigree enamel as a traditional handicraft of Beijing could be dated600years back inhistory and is seen as a very important class of metal art. It has a very unique art style withelegant and fresh colors, which was mostly used as worship hallows and for royal family inancient China. The patterns of drawing and colors evolve as time goes, which reflects certainaesthetic needs of people in different times.However, the traditional pattern and color of filigree enamel is fading out in people s arttaste nowadays. To save our culture heritage from dying and redevelop it, a research is made bythe author based on the patterns and colors of filigree enamel, and a series of innovationspracticed. The purpose of inheritance is to carry the culture forward, and research is for betterinnovations. Modern features of art design could and should be bring into the developing of newfiligree enamel to meet the aesthetic need of people. Questions are discussed in this thesis onhow to have innovation and change on filigree enamel design while keep its cultural traditions.
