Due to China’s increasing integration into the whole world, there is an urgent need for qualified interpreters, but the present teaching system of interpretation course doesn’t function enough to produce qualified interpreters to cover the imbalance between demand and supply. The purpose of the authors’exploratory study is to promote discussion and provide some feasible and effective teaching strategies in short-term memory training in interpreting. In the study, the relevant short-term memory training strategies and techniques are designed and applied in the teaching of interpretation. The study’s findings and achievements in the memory training are interpreted by using the SPSS21statistics package in which the Descriptive Statistics, Paired-Samples T test and Dependent Samples T tests were utilized. The study is guided by the following theories:Psychological Theory of Memory, including memory categories and forgetting factors in short-term memory; the Interpretive Theory and the De-verbalization processing; and Brain Neurology Theory of Bilinguals such as Compound Bilingual and Coordinated Bilingual. The subjects of the empirical study are two natural classes of senior students from Hunan International Economics University. The author tries different methods in teaching of two groups to test their efficiency in short-term training (in the whole processes of tests and teaching, students are not allowed to take notes). After the analyses of data in SPSS, conclusions were drawn as follows:1) The strategies and methods for short-term memory in Experimental Group are more effective and successful than those in Control Group and students are able to utilize the strategies flexibly in the post-test.2) According to the comparison among the different teams of TEM4scores in two groups, the English proficiency does affect the result of memory training. A more solid English foundation one laid; a better breakthrough he can get in memory training.3) The memory training has different effects on E-C interpreting and C-E interpreting. Students do a better job from Chinese to English interpreting. The present study displays the effective strategies for short-term memory training which has some values in future interpreting teaching and interpreters’ selection. The author hopes that she could do more thorough and in-depth research in interpreting in order to meet the requirements of the society and the market for teaching in interpreting.
