More and more scholars home and abroad have done researches onlearning styles in recent years and most of them pay their attention on thelearning styles of learners of different stages and different ages, especiallycollege participants. Thus the studies on Chinese H.V.C. students are fewerand the domain of high vocational college students’ learning styles is leftlargely unexplored. In order to fill up the research gap, the present research took H.V.C.students as the subjects and tried to find out (1) the present situation oflearning styles among high vocational college students.(2) The differences inlearning styles between male students and female students in high vocationalcollege.(3) The correlation between students’ learning styles and theirEnglish scores of College Entrance Examination. The participants consisted of200freshmen in Xing’an Vocational&Technological College. Joy Reid’s Perceptual Learning PreferenceQuestionnaire (1984) was employed in order to conduct quantitative analysisof the subjects’ learning styles. The English scores of College EntranceExamination are used to collect the English proficiency of the participants.Based on their gender and English examination scores, the subjects weredivided into groups. The statistics got from the investigation was analyzed byusing SPSS17.0. The author used Means, Standard Deviation, Minimum andMaximum to discover how the six learning styles were employed among thestudents. T-Test was used to compare the means of the two groups of maleand female participants to examine how significant they were and one wayANOVA was conducted to find out the relationship between the learningstyles and the participants’ English achievements. The result shows that (1) most of the H.V.C. students prefer to learn with a great variety of learning styles rather than one or two. Kinesthetic learningstyles are the participants’ major learning styles and auditory and visual stylesare the least preferred styles for H.V.C. students.(2) We did not findsignificant difference in the participants’ learning style preference for maleand female students. Kinesthetic learning style is the most preferred learningstyle both for male and female participants. For male participants, the leastused learning styles are tactile style and visual style. Visual and auditorystyles are the least used styles for female participants. Furthermore, there isthe biggest difference between male and female in group learning style.(3)The correlation between learning style preference and academic achievementswas not significant and learning style was not the decisive factor to affectexamination scores.According to the results of the study, the author has also given somepedagogical implications for high vocational college English teachers andstudents. For improving the efficiency of teaching, teachers should try tomake different teaching plans and use diversified teaching methods to matchtheir teaching styles with their students’ learning styles. Meanwhile, foreignlanguage learners were suggested to realize the importance of their learningstyle preferences and diversify their learning styles to enhance their foreignlanguage learning. Finally, the limitations of the study and therecommendations for further research are presented in the last chapter.
