On The E-C Translation Of Long Sentences In Informative Text

E-C translation of long sentences has been regarded as a major difficulty in translation practice and one of the most important research topics. Therefore, proficiency in E-C translation of long sentences will help to improve one’s ability of translation. This translation practice report has reported and summarized the background, property and requirement of this translation task, preparation before translation, translation process, matters after translation, as well as the problems and deficiencies encountered during practice based on the author’s translation project of more than10,000English words:Motivation in Language Planning and Language Policy chapter one, an academic writing wrote by Dennis Ager, an Emeritus Professor of Modern Languages at Aston University, UK. The report has analyzed and reported systematically the translation of long sentences from the perspective of the E-C translation of long sentences in informative text with a focused research on the feature, the translation principle, strategy and method of informative long sentences, especially on the application of methods such as empedding, cutting, reversing, splitting, inserting and recasting in translation cases. By pursueing theoretical considerations and solutions to the translation of long sentences in this translation practice, it aims to try to sum up a general conclusion and put forward a constructive solution towards the E-C translation of long sentences in informative text. That is to be guided by the principle of communication translation, and take the strategy of domestication. In the method, empedding, cutting and splitting should be the first choices. Only if the above three do not work should other means such as reversing, inserting and recasting be taken account of. In addition, the method chosen is sometimes flexible, integrated, and creative.
