As to pragmatic needs, generic sentences present themselves in the form of arecessive full name judgment, to indicate traits of a certain kind of entity and to makeAD hoc judgment. Generic sentences are divided into two kinds:(1)class-class,such as "dog is a kind of animal."(2) class-attribute, such as "bird can fly", thispaper mainly focuses on the second one.The research of generic sentences is mostly performed from the logicperspective and cognitive linguistics view. On one side, this thesis supports thegeneric sentences research from the cognitive perspective, on the other side, thethesis intends to locate a fresh research orientation on the basis of the previousachievements, by virtue of which the whole paper attempts to reiterate the generationand interpretation of generic sentences in an angle of conscious-intentionality underthe Philosophy of Mind Model combining with the PropertyEnforcement-Association Model. Broadly speaking, it aims to study human mind, consciousness, and especially study the relationship between the brain and the body. All things in the world have their own physical sides, through which they attaindiverse psychological experiences. The present research takes its study subject as the core claims of Philosophy ofMind including consciousness and intentionality, just to figure out the construalprocesses in the generation and interpretation of generic sentences. We can combine the blending and adapting other linguistic theories forreference, including the Blending Theory and Mental-models Theory, in order toconfirm the rationality of attribute operation covering the framework ofconsciousness, intentionality, supervenience and qualia, aiming to construct ahighly-specific and constrained Attribute Inferential Model. We need to prove thatnot only can generics theory’s maneuverability and explanatory power be accelerated in this manner, but also the applicability should be extended into a wider area oflinguistic phenomena according to the proposed model. This paper presents the following two theoretical goals:(1) to indicate thefeasibility of the operation process in the generation and construal of genericsentences, in the perspective of Philosophy of Mind--analysis framework to providea totally fresh orientation and location for cognitive linguistics and generics study.(2)to present solid evidence to prove the rationality and feasibility of the so-calledProperty Model of Illocutionary Metonymy. The results of this research are essentially to reasonably establish the threeoperation processes functioning in the generation and interpretation of genericsentences in the framework of the philosophy of mind:(1)intentionality—the guidingprocess;(2)psychological supervenience--the selecting process;(3)qualia and qualesense--the interpreting process. The marked significance is in that a kind ofbrand-new research perspective and method basing on the original foundation will befound out. To a certain extent, we also provide a basis for related theory research.Through locating and amending the defects of original generics study, it seeks toimprove the theory in a substantial way. Compared with the contemporary genericsresearches, our thesis points a unique quality from the view of theoreticalcombinations: instead of exploiting each other’s strengths and avoiding theirweakness, it encounters the problems of generics in a direct way. In a word, thereexist two primary issues to be resolved for the comprehensive presentation ofgenerics: construction of Philosophy of Mind Model and systemic analysis of genericsentences. The whole structure of this paper is divided into five chapters. The first chapterintroduces the source of this paper, research methods and research materials. Thesecond chapter is the overview to the domestic and foreign research status andexhibits the analysis framework of generic sentences. About framework, we mainlyattach to the Philosophy of Mind, and we also introduce some effective concepts andworking definitions, including intentionality, psychological supervenience, qualiaand quale sense which we use to explore generation and interpretation process ofgeneric sentences. The third chapter reaffirm theoretical sources and methods whichcould support writing this paper, as well as to clarify the source of the effectivenessof the theoretical papers. The fourth chapter basically reiterates the definition, classification and some of the new features of generic sentences which the previousscholars have obtained through the research. The fifth chapter is the core of thisthesis, and the reason is that we centered on the generation and interpretation processof generic sentence.
