In this paper we defines the essence of color:That color belongs tothe kind of visual form. After defined by its very nature, color is put into the mosttypical visual art-the art of painting. Through combing the history of painting color,this paper appreciate the case of post-Impressionist paintings mainly by theircolors so as to summarize the aesthetic properties, as well as expound the aestheticsignificance of the colors in the art of painting. In the process, this paper makesanswers to the question on why color accomplish classic paintings bypost-impressionist painter’s hand and almost arouse people’s constant aestheticvalue.This paper is divided into five parts:Chapter1introduction: In this chapter we mainly makes a brief description ofpast theory research status and applied research for the color aesthetics both athome and abroad, while makes the definition of the post-impressionist period andterms used below.Chapter2the nature of the color: In this chapter we discuss the form and visualform, defines the nature of color, expounds and analyzes principles of occurrenceand acceptance of color.Chapter3Color in paintings: In this chapter we combs the history of paintingcolors, and concludes the different characteristics and value of color in the threestages during early period, the classical period and modern period of the art ofpainting. This chapter especially makes a detailed discussion about fundamentalcause of occurrence of post-impressionism and disintegration of constant colorwhich are color revolution, and summarizes the aesthetic value and artistic impactof the post-impressionist paintings.Chapter4Aesthetic significance of color in the art of painting: after analysesand discussions in the prior three chapters, in this chapter we discussed the aestheticsignificance of color in the art of painting from four-perspectives: the shape beauty of color for visual sense, the symbolic beauty for emblems, the expressionon affections and the life like rhythm beauty of color.Chapter5Conclusion: This chapter reviews the role and influence of color inthe art of painting to make a brief summary of the main content and conclusions ofthis article, and puts forward the problems author has not been able to solve for thesuccessive researchers.
