Mr. Wang Xilin, a famous composer, is one of the Chinese composers being referred to as "with the most solid foundation and the most profound thinking". He has written a large amount of works with different themes, many of which are greatly appreciated by the music industry, become the audience’s favorite. Piano Concerto, whose premiere was quite a success, was Wang Xilin’s newly created concerto. Since it was created in a later time, it is not an often-analyzed piece, and can be further studied to look into Mr. Wang Xilin’s creative dynamic. In the meantime, studying this work can better explore into Mr. Wang Xilin’s creative techniques, and more importantly, to find out how the modern Western composition techniques blend into Chinese folk music (local opera, etc.) to produce music with national characteristics and individuality. In order to enable the music lovers to gain a better understanding of Mr. Wang Xilin, and at the same time invite more composer to study the compositional techniques, this paper takes Piano Concerto as an example to study its creation from aspects of techniques analysis, creative motivations and ideas, the causes and thoughts of the creative approach, the aesthetic significance, etc.This paper consists four chapters. Chapterl explores Mr. Wang Xilin’s technical approach in this work from the technical perspective, including melody, rhythm, structure, etc. Chapter2explores the deep-seated factor under the surface techniques applied in this work from aspects, such as the creative techniques causes, the personal experience, etc. Chapter3elaborates the aesthetic significance of this work, summarizes the excellence combination of techniques and local opera. Chapter4summarizes the work’s prominent characteristics and features, as well as its central meaning.
