The Study On Wang Fuzhi’s Anthology Of Ancient Poetry And Commentary

Wang Fuzhi’s Anthology of Ancient Poetry and Commentary is an extremely importantpoetry anthology in Late Ming Dynasty, which fully embodies the poetics thought of WangFuzhi, and takes on strong theory. Wang Fuzhi’s poetics thought has been the focus of theacademic circles for a long period, but the research on the whole anthology of Anthology ofAncient Poetry and Commentary is relatively weak, which need to be further expanded.Moreover, the full study of Anthology of Ancient Poetry and Commentary also has importantinfluence on the comprehensive understanding of Wang Fuzhi’s poetics thought. Therefore,the study on Anthology of Ancient Poetry and Commentary is of certain value andsignificance.As for this thesis, basing on the text, deep reading for the text, and the abundant existingresearch, I adopt different study methods, such as comparative study, deep reading and so on,to discuss the topic fully and deeply. This thesis is divided into the following parts:Introduction: This part introduces the development of the anthology of ancient poetry,the reason for the prosperity of the anthology of ancient poetry in Ming and Qing dynasty andthe significance of the topic.The first chapter: This part introduces the compilation motivation of the book, Anthologyof Ancient Poetry and Commentary. It briefly sketches out Wang Fuzhi’s academic works andorigin, and fully studies the compiling motivation of Wang Fuzhi’s Anthology of AncientPoetry and Commentary.One motivation is the influence of the customs in that age, thatWang Fuzhi was touched with the destruction of the country and the scholars’ treason, so hewanted to change morality of that time. The other further reason is culture, that Wang Fuzhiinsisted on inheriting Confucius’ pomes moralization and he wanted to save the world withpoems moralization.The second chapter: This part introduces the characteristics of poetry-selecting andcommentary of Anthology of Ancient Poetry and Commentary. Basing on the five kinds of thechosen poetic styles, it induces the characteristics of poetry-selecting and commentary ofAnthology of Ancient Poetry and Commentary which are reflected through the discussion ofthe poetic styles, times, poets and critical methods.The third chapter: This part introduces the poetic thoughts of Anthology of AncientPoetry and Commentary. It mainly discusses and analyses the book’s three kinds of important poetic theory including the placid Confucian poetics, discussing the poetry from the angle ofQi, and poetic degeneration, to explore their origins, main connotation and poetic value.The fourth chapter: This part introduces the value of Anthology of Ancient Poetry andCommentary. It mainly analyses the book’s value in Wang Fuzhi’s poetics works, as well asthe value for future generations’ poetry appreciation and research, spiritual construction,cultural inheritance.
