Perceptual learning style, as one of the most important individualized factors manifested by language learners in the process of learning, has aroused extensive attention among language scholars and teachers both at home and abroad. In this thesis, students’ perceptual learning style will be analyzed and oral activities will be designed on the basis of students’perceptual learning style. Meanwhile, the data of scores will be collected for the analysis of the effectiveness of oral activities. The study aims at enhancing teachers’ understanding of students’ perceptual learning style and helping teachers to design more individualized oral activities in order to improve students’communicative competence. In this study, non-English major students in Jilin Agricultural University are chosen as research subjects. Firstly, the survey on students’ perceptual learning preference is conducted by combining Joy Reid’s (1987) PLPQ with interview. Then comprehensive analysis of students’ perceptual learning preference has been carried out and individualized oral activities are designed according to students’ perceptual learning preference. Finally, students take part in two oral exams and their scores will be analyzed by comparing with those in normal class. This study shows that students are first of all in favor of tactile and visual learning preference, secondly individual and kinesthetic. The least preferred ones are auditory and group learning styles. According to the statistics, there are significant differences on auditory learning styles in gender. After the comparison of oral scores between the normal class and experimental class, it’s obvious that scores of experimental class are highly improved. Oral English class activities based on perceptual learning styles are very helpful in improving students’ oral ability. In conclusion, teachers should try to design various individualized oral English class activities to adapt to students’learning styles so that their oral ability can be greatly improved.
