Since1990, with the development of science and technology, the Computer Assisted Language Learning has been applied gradually in College English Teaching in China, which results in the great changes in teaching environment. Traditional teaching model is challenged, the students’ integrated comprehensive ability are not developed in good condition under the traditional model of teacher-centered teaching. More students’enrollment worsens the teaching quality greatly. With the development of internet, there are a variety of ways for students to acquire knowledge and information. The students are not satisfied with the traditional model of focusing on the text books while learning the foreign language which leaves us a problem that the traditional teaching mode can’t keep pace with the development of society and language environment. Thus, the universities have been offering many lingual education reform projects to highlight the training in English communication skills, to emphasize the use of multimedia and network resources and to try to grade classroom teaching. In particular, in2007, the Ministry of Education issued "College English Curriculum Requirements", which emphasizes on remolding the existing unitary teacher-centered pattern of language teaching by introducing computer-and classroom-based teaching models. The new model should be built on modern information technology, particularly network technology, so that English language teaching and learning will be, to a certain extent, free from the constraints of time or place and geared towards students’individualized and autonomous learning. The new model should facilitate mobilizing the initiative of both teachers and students, and attach particular importance to the central position of students and the leading role of teachers in the teaching and learning process. This change in the mode of teaching has changed the concept of students and teachers, and a variety of teaching models based on computer and network to improve the students’ English language ability also came into being. Students and teachers can use computer resources to integrate teaching content, teaching process and computer assistance. Computer’s status and role in foreign language teaching has been highlighted. In the case of CALL, this paper explores the training of the student’s autonomous learning, the transformation of teacher’s role and the emergence of the new teaching modes in CALL in college English teaching. According to the relevant information, the goal of this study is established to identify the computer’s status as a secondary position in the college English teaching. In the teaching process, computer-assisted language learning focuses on changing the teacher-centered mode and student autonomous learning, so as to change role of teachers in teaching; and discusses application of the modes integrated with computer-assisted language learning e.g. problem-based teaching mode, the web quest mode, and group collaborative mode. And the methods and ways to improve the students’ English proficiency in these modes are explored. In this study, we also find that there are still some problems in the Computer Assisted Language Learning, which need to be analyzed and researched in future teaching, and solutions should be put forward to promote the development of college English teaching.
