| Considering the inadequacy of existing English versions of the CLPRC, this study applies Systemic Functional Linguistics to translation quality assessment of an English version of the CLPRC with an attempt to improve its translation quality.Si Xianzhu’s Translation Quality Assessment Model (TQAM) is the prototype of the model adopted in this thesis. Taking the typology feature of legal text into consideration, textual meaning parameter is added. Accordingly, the core constituents of the model adopted are three parameters and five procedures, namely, ideational, interpersonal and textual meaning parameters. Meanwhile, the first step of the model is conduction of register and lexical-grammar analysis of the CLPRC. The second step and third step are to discover negative deviation and equivalence. The fourth and fifth step are rejudgement of the negative deviation and equivalence based on the genre of the CLPRC, making a comprehensive assessment of the translation version.The result of the assessment can be concluded as follows:firstly, throughout the whole text, there is1negative textual deviation and2negative textual equivalences in the translation version, which indicate language feature of Chinese version is commendably reserved. Secondly, in view of the4negative interpersonal deviations, interpersonal function is successfully conveyed. Thirdly, as an informative text, the ideational function is a disservice to the translation quality due to its21negative ideational deviations. However, this weak point can be offset by the numerous merits of the translation, the overall translation quality of this version is fulfilling. The last part of this study consists of some suggestions for improving the translation quality of the English version of the CLPRC. |
