Vocabulary learning is not only the basic part but also the most important part for English learners. Thedevelopment of science and technology brings the information age. Internet provides a good learningenvironment and abundant learning resources for language learners, and gives learners more opportunities toinput and output language. Under this environment, there is a large number of network learning resources,the research of combining network learning and language learning appears as early as the1980’, but theresearch on how to make use of network resources to learn English vocabulary has little research.In this thesis, the author mainly study on two questions on online English vocabulary learning:1)whether online vocabulary learning method is more effective than the traditional vocabulary learning method;2) if online vocabulary learning method is more effective, then what are the advantages of it.The62participants of this experiment is from Taiyuan University of Science and Technology, they aresophomores of non-English major students and are divided into control group and experimental group.The author uses the method of the pre-test and the post-test to know and analyze the participants’ Englishvocabulary learning situation before and after this experiment. Then the author uses the interview methodto interview10participants in this experiment to collect data and analysis their answers, and concludes theadvantages of online English vocabulary learning.After one semester’ experimental study, the author analyzed the results and found:1) onlinevocabulary learning method is more efficient;2)online vocabulary learning method has four advantages: toimprove the learning efficiency; to increase learners’ interest in learning; abundant learning resources;self-monitoring learning.
