Zhang Yanghao, as a litterateur, a politician and ideologist, is famous for his Sanqu and political comment. He is also a famous confucian with Han nationality in the middle of Yuan Dynasty. Influenced by his family and Qilu culture, Zhang Yanghao believes in confucianism. When he was young, he was diligent and ambitious, and seized the favorable opportunity to engage in politics. During his official period, he pursued righteousness, worked hard for people, and strived to practice the Confucian official administration, people-oriented thoughts. In his later years, and put insight into the right place at the right time, resigning from office and taking part in writing. Zhang Yanghao explained the essence of Confucianism all his life.Guided by the Confucian thoughts, Zhang Yanghao’s poetry and prose actively concerns about national affairs and widely reflects the hardships of people. His poetry mainly contains five aspects. First, numerous phenomena are in the officialdom, including speculate and secure personal gain, disgusting flatter, as well as compliment of those honest and diligent politician. Second, it is the idyllic life, which describes beautiful scenery of his hometown. Thirdly, he expresses the tiredness and homesick in the trip. Fourth, he shows real emotions in both farewell and singing. Last, through memorizing and praising history, he embodies the observation and consideration of the historical trend.Artistic achievement of Zhang Yanghao’s poetry mainly manifests in two aspects, and one is the proficient skills in writing poetry. In the technique of expression, he writes for some reason; in the use of language, he is good at writing texts; in rhetoric, he likes to use allusions. The second is the poetic characteristics of magnificent, elegant and romantic style, the simple and natural, fresh and elegant language and the profound emotional tone based on history. Zhang Yanghao is the master of prose in Yuan Dynasty. General characteristics of his fu is fresh and bright; his xu is good at expressing emotions; narrative is rich in content and flexible methods; inscriptions include political document writings; and the funeral oration and lament, etc.. Zhang Yanghao’s prose is characterized by many masters in the early years, which opens up a fresh outlook; he learns from Han Yu in the middle years and shows the characteristics of archaic peculiar; in his later years, rational philosophy can be found in his plain works.
