Analyse Edward Said’s Post-colonial Cultural Viewpoint

In the late1980s and early1990s, during the postmodern theory trend on the occasion of gradual decline in the Western world, the Post-colonial theory of thought rised, once became the focus in the field of the Western literature, politics, philosophy, etc.The Post-colonial cultural theories was a part of the Post-colonial theory.The American Post-colonial theorists from Palestinian Edward Said, from the creation of the Oriental Studies,which founded by the Western theorists, drawing on the basis views of the Marx, Gramsci and Foucault, expose the nature of the hegemony of The Western imperialist culture. At the same time, he established a relatively complete system of Post-colonial cultural theory, it had a great role in promoting the development of the Post-colonial theory research, also had a profound impact on the development of the post-modern literature and even the cultural.In this regard, the paper will be based on the background of the generating of the Post-colonial cultural theory,sort out the view of Post-colonial cultural theory about Said, trying to show clearly about the framework of his Post-colonial cultural theory, and to highlight his views which is groundbreaking. Meanwhile, this paper also analyzed the achievements and shortcomings whom present with Said as the representative of the Post-colonial theorists on Post-colonial theory research. And combined the theory heritage and development in China, targeted to resolve the plight of the colonial cultural theory encountered in China.Finally, this paper will combine practical, from the Post-colonial cultural theorists perspective, exploring the future development path of colonial cultural theory from multi-angle, to provide ideas and practical reference on the Post-colonial theory and cultural studies immediately.This thesis consists of four chapters:The first chapter,"The background and The origin of Said’s thought", Through interpretation of the causes of the Post-colonial theory generated about Said,explored the roots of post-colonial cultural theory. The second chapter,"Said’s Orientalist discourse system Criticism", mainly to analysis Said’s unique views on the Orientalist discourse system, reveal the essence of Orientalism hegemony.The third chapter,"Said’s Culture and Imperialism Criticism"", focused on the essence of Western culture and imperialism to realize conspiracy,and the Third World peoples to resist such hegemonic culture.The fourth chapter,"The thinking of the Post-colonial cultural theories ",it is the focus of this chapter is to be discussed, mainly to analyze the achievements and shortcomings of Post-colonial cultural theories, and introduced the development of the Post-colonial theories in China, explore the development road of the Post-colonial cultural theories from the the perspective of the Post-colonial theorists.Overall, the Post-colonial theory pioneered by Said exposed drawbacks, Suffered variety of criticized by the scholars. However, as long as the Post-colonial theorists and scholars recognized the direction, correct the attitude towards the development of the Post-colonial theories,out the vague and complex cycle of the Postmodern rhetorical discourse,the development of the Post-colonial theory is still limited.This will be the views wants to expressed in this paper finally.
