| Virginia Woolf is one of the most prominent women of the20th century. Besides her spectacular achievements on novels, her feminism idea which full of pioneering spirit and the aesthetic thought expressed in her novels are also left to future generations as the precious spiritual heritage.This thesis is consisted of4chapters, each chapter respectively discussed:The source of Virginia Woolf’s feminist ideas and aesthetics in her novels; the specific content of Woolf s feminist ideas; the main ingredients of Woolf s aesthetic novels; the inner link of Virginia Woolf s feminist ideas and aesthetics in her novels. The conclusion of this thesis is an analysis of the historical influence of Woolf s feminism and aesthetics in her novels.Many reasons contribute to Woolf’s feminist and aesthetic in her novels, the most notable ones are:the special experience of family influence on her early life; the burgeoning feminist thoughts during the late19th century and early20th century caused a big effect on her thought; the influence of British Bloomsbury group’s aesthetic thoughts to her in the early20th centuryBased on revealing the social cause of women’s misfortune, Woolfs feminism furthermore discusses the limits of women’s own ideological character. Woolf pointed out that "androgyny" should be the goal of building a normal personality, the liberation of the women also depends on the achievement of this goal.Woolf s aesthetics in novels is rich in content. She had a passion for literature and deeply sensed the greatness of literature; however she also soberly realized that the development of literature should be along with the development of the era of social life and human nature. She pursues inner truth and non-personalized writing. She thought novel should be a kind of special form which is a package of various artistic elementsThere is a profound inner link between Woolf s feminist ideas and her novel aesthetic thoughts. They both reject "objective truth". Woolf’s pursuit of imagery poetry forms is the expression of her feminist temperament and aesthetic concepts, as well as the reflection of her novels. Because of the fusion of Woolf’s feminist thoughts and aesthetics in her novels, Woolf tried to write about "self pursue" and "self exclude", which reflected and presented the complicated and contradicted value orientation.The conclusion of this thesis points out that, as a founder and pioneer, Woolf inherited and developed the traditional feminist poetics, while established the theoretical framework and provided the discourse pattern for the later feminist literary creation, which had a significant effect on later generations of feminist thought and feminist poetics theory. |
