Female Consciousness And Ethics In Bi Sheng Hua

In Ming and Qing Dynasties, female literature presented a unique feature. Tanci novel is quite a special one in female writing. Long verse narrative style, coupled with the theme of running away from home in disguise, which appeared in most tanci novels, made them very special.As a female tanci novel, Bi Sheng Hua is a masterpiece which took three decades for Qiu Xinru to complete it. This paper attempts to discuss the embedded female consciousness and ethics in the novel by analyzing the details, and thus to expand the horizon of academic research.This paper includes an introduction, four chapters of argumentation and a conclusion. The introduction is about tanci and tanci novel in Ming and Qing Dynasties. It distinguishes their different connotations and combs the relationship between them, and comes up with the significance of the selected topic of Bi Sheng Hua, which is traditionally considered more conservative in thought compared with Zai Sheng Yuan. The first chapter "Qiu Xinru and Her Masterpiece Bi Sheng Hua"describes the life of the author, introduces the creation process and the story outline of Bi Sheng Hua. The second chapter,"The female image in Bi Sheng Hua", which can be divided into three types, namely, the refuse for marriage, jealous shrew and traditional women, will be discussed combined with text analyses. The third chapter discusses about the female consciousness in Bi Sheng Hua. Created by talented female writers, tanci novels contain an obvious female literature style. Female consciousness presented in Bi Sheng Hua will be discussed from the perspective of feminism, space field, self-presentation and construction of self-image and the others’. Chapter four will focus on discussing the ethic ideas of Bi Sheng Hua from the following three aspects:"Patriarchy——the plight of women under the social structure","Social attitude towards genders-female writing under family ethics", and "The analysis of status-rebuilding of gender remodeling under ethical view". This paper is aimed at combing the fact ever existing among women under the social structure and returning it to the historical basis. Moreover, it is a new research and re-exploration on the basis of tanci novels interwoven with the cultural background from literature texts.
