Folk custom is custom habit and custom letter concept of an ethnic groupforming in history.During the course of traditional Chinese medicine, it also infiltratedthe content of the traditional folk custom. The process of Chinese medicine penetrates inthe folk customs of society in ancient China. The "compendium of materia medica" of LiShizhen is not only a very important treasure of ancient Chinese medical history, but alsoan important contribution in the world medicine. Also, it has quite a strong humanisticspirit. The "compendium of materia medica" became encyclopedia in China in the17thcentury and reproduced the Chinese traditional culture by the ways of writing. It records alot of taboos, incantation, Materia Medica legends, fetish worship, and faith of traditionalfestival, reference of proverb poetry and songs and so on.The first chapter: taboo and incantation. The first section is taboo, which introducesthe origin and analyzes the taboo types that exist in the “compendium of materia medica”:medication taboos, pregnancy taboos, food taboos. The second section is incantation,which analyze the causes of this phenomenon of incantation and a few incantation.The second chapter: Materia Medica legends. This chapter detailed introduces sixtypes: named legends, guanine given medicine, monks give medicine, Taoist medicinegrant, karma get medicine, animal herbal knowledge. There are two sections in this chapter, mainly inspecting the customs ofDragon Boat Festival, and the double ninth festival custom, explaining the cause of thecustoms and analyzing the reasonable part of the customs.The fifth chapter: reference of proverb poetry and songs. Li Shizhen in“compendium of materia medica”references a large number of poems in the” book ofsongs” and other poems as examples of its explanation of medica, which not onlydistinguishes the name and explain the medica properties, but also make this medicalmonograph has humanity. So this chapter is divided into distinguishing of medicine,explanations of drug’s names, explanations of the medicinal properties, growingenvironment, etc, by reference purpose for classification basis.
