A Pragmatic Study Of The Mongolian Internet News Headlines

Today, the importance of the mass media is becoming increasingly paramount with the rapid development of the society. Therefore, the news plays a vital role in the quick transmitting of the information. Generally, people have not enough time to read news carefully from beginning to end to look for useful message which they need to cope with in their daily life. The readers just skim over the articles trying to find out the needed information, especially in the hustle and bustle of the city life. So the linguistic study of the headline is extremely important as the title is a short summary of the most important items of the news. Along with the social development, there are more and more people surfing on the internet to get the latest news. So, in today’s society, it is crucial to study more about the Mongolian internet news headlines in order to attract more and more readers in the harsh challage between various mass medias. So the pragmatic study about the Mongolian internet news headlines is conducted through this thesis.In this thesis, the systematic and comprehensive analysis is conducted to make clear the linguistic features of Mongolian internet news headline by using related pragmatic theories such as the relevance theory and presupposition.This thesis is composed of five chapters. The author analyzes the samples of Mongolian internet news headline which are collected from the most influential Mongolian news website:www.holvoo.net. Therefore, the discussion about the pragmatic analysis of the Mongolian internet news headlines from the perspective of the pragmatic theory which includes relevance theory and presupposition is conducted through this thesis. In Chapter One, a brief introduction will be made on the study of Mongolian internet news headlines In Chapter Two, the author presents a literature■review as to the news headlines studies. Meanwhile, the previous domestic and foreign studies on the news headlines researches are briefly introduced. In Chapter Three, the definition of pragmatics and the basic theoretical background of this paper will be introduced including the relevance theory and the presupposition. In Chapter Four, Mongolian internet news headlines are analyzed from two different perspectives which are the relevance theory and the presupposition. The last chapter concludes the whole thesis. Meanwhile, the limitations of the current research and the suggestions for the further study of Mongolian internet news headlines are briefly mentioned in Chapter Five.As to the Mongolian news headlines, the effective choices of the words, the appropriate uses of the grammar rules as well as the culturally originated rhetorical devices are the symbols of a successful communication. The pragmatic analysis of Mongolian news headline is barely conducted before. In the near future, the pragmatic study of Mongolian news headlines will become fairly mature.
