Printmaking, with its antiquity, has long been praised as an exquisite art form,whichplays a predominant role in painting development both aesthetically and historically. It hasbecome a unique attractiveness due to the refinement and shaping of time. With itsdistinctive engraving procedure, for instance, variation of material and texture, it has beenattached great values to by artistes and art-collectors. The paintings modify greatlyaccording to the specific material. The printing-mark also varies accordingly, from theprimitive carving to the contemporary digital sculpting, from the traditional single use offlat concave, convex, and pinhole technique to recent mixture of those methods. It is a vitalsubject for the contemporary artist to form a new implication of this technique and explorethe universe of material, realizing the expressing of emotion and the characteristic of thiscentury. This graduation thesis is to reveal the pattern of modern printmaking, based on theanalysis of material and printing-mark. It is evidently proved that material andprinting-mark is essential to printmaking, through the comprehension and the starting pointof the final project, through the topic-selecting and project creating process.
