Research On The Ancient Settlement Space In The Youshui Valley In West Hunan Basing On The Culture Ecology

It has already been accepted by the academic cycle that the ancient settlement is closely associated with the settlement culture. But the space transition of ancient town in combination with the evolution of culture is rarely systematically studied. For that reason, culture ecology, the achievement of interdisciplinary research, is introduced in this thesis. This theory takes settlement culture and its environment as a whole cultural ecosystem. Along with the development of economic globalization, the cultural "species" are gradually disappearing and the ancient towns are all in the same pattern. In order to define the root for the disappearance of characteristics of the ancient towns, it is necessary to build a comprehensive understanding from cultural ecosystem perspective and understand the influence of culture development on the ancient town space development.The theoretical framework of the ancient settlement cultural ecosystem in Youshui, western Hunan, is built in chapter two of this thesis. Then, based on this theoretical framework, the process of space ecological evolution is discussed from the view of dynamic mechanism and species evolution making use of ecology standpoints.Chapter four, acting as the case research, takes Wangcun, Qianling and Liye as research objects. Through field research and literature review, the generation and development of ancient town culture in the particular geographic feature of Wangcun are analyzed integrally. This chapter also analyzes the regular features of cultural influence on the space ecological evolution process and space change. The similarities and differences of cultural ecological processes compared with Qianlin and Liye are studied. It is concluded that the development of ancient town space and the cultural ecosystem are inseparable. The threshold of cultural ecosystem is high facing the impact of external forces if the cultural deposits of town are deeper, and traditional town space is more likely to be overwhelmed by different culture if the cultural deposits of town are weaker.In the end, strategies about how to inherit and protect the characteristic of national culture today are discussed on the issue of national culture ancient settlements development. Some proposals are put forward for the ancient town space development facing the information society.
