Research On Citizens’Sense Of Place In National Historical And Cultural City

Different from ordinary city, historical cultural city has a distinguishing feature and also has great historical and cultural value. Our nation attach importance to historical cultural city, the Law of the People’s Republic of China on the Protection of Cultural Relics declare that measures should be taken to protect historical cultural city. But under the background of globalization and modernization, our historical cultural city has faced the threat of homogenization to some degree. In order to provide some useful suggestions for the construction and protection of historical cultural city, this thesis take the theory of sense of place as a breakthrough point, from the aspect of human-environment interaction and base on place theory to explore the interaction between parochial construction and citizen emotional connection. This thesis take Fuzhou as a case, use the qualitative and quantitative approach to explore the citizens’sense of place from the aspect of man-environment interaction. Firstly, from the environment aspect, this thesis expound both on the city’s parochial in its space evolution and culture, and discover that the culture of nation historical cultural city is clear and has strong characteristics of placeness and perceptible. Secondly, from the human aspect, the survey reveal that the citizens in Fuzhou form place perception, sense of place and other subjective consciousnesses from their living experience. The results show:(1) Citizens living in historical cultural city varies in the degree of sense of place, register as population characteristics, behavior characteristics, place perception and so on,(2) Sense of place varies in different group of citizens living in Fuzhou,(3) Place perception differences in different group of citizens living in Fuzhou,(4) There is a significant positive correlation between place perception and sense of place. Finally, base on the research process and conclusion, this thesis put forward some suggestions on improving the citizens’sense of place and inspirations to the protection and development plan for historical cultural city.
