Vagueness in natural language has been an researching target for many linguists. Linguists study it from various aspects. However, few have made further study on how vagueness should be appropriately interpreted. On diplomatic occasions, vague diplomatic language is widely employed by diplomats for certain strategies to safeguard the national interests and maintain the good relationship between two sides. Some interpreters may find vague diplomatic language confusing to interpret. They hesitate on whether they should retain vagueness or make them explicit in actual interpretation. In the thesis, the author focuses on the regular press conference by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of PRC, applies linguistic theories and interpreting experience to the subject with a view to finding appropriate approaches in rendering the vagueness in diplomatic language. The interpretation should not only conform with Nida’s Dynamic Equivalence but also Political Equivalence, namely the interpreted political information should be equivalent to the one in source language.
