The Research Of Official Image In A Brief History Of Enlightenment

During the reform movement, the novel A Brief History ofEnlightenment which was written by Li Boyuan is a good novel. Asthe body of the novel which exposed to criticism, the official imageis unique among this novel character. However, the study of A BriefHistory of Enlightenment pays more attention to the process of theintroduction of western civilization and the change in people’sminds in late qing dynasty. As for the characters of the novel, thestudy is coarser. This study aims to remedy the defects, especiallythe official image.This thesis is composed of six parts. Part one, introduction,giving a brief introduction of the official image in A Brief History ofEnlightenment in china and foreign countries, illustrating thepurpose and significance of the thesis. Part two, it counts andclassifies the official image in A Brief History of Enlightenment, andit also concludes the basic characteristic of official image in A BriefHistory of Enlightenment. Part three, from the social background ofthe late qing dynasty. Analyzes the factors which affected by thesocial environment, and tease the author’s writing career and thechange of his mind. Part four, is the critical value of official image inA Brief History of Enlightenment. It discussed from the culturalvalue and reality critique value. In term of the cultural criticism, exposé and criticize the hidden rules of officialdom in late qingdynasty, the feudal bureaucratic system and officer culturaldissimilation phenomenon. In the real critical value, criticismfocused on the official money-making ideas and the attitude onxenophilia. Part six, conclusion, summarizing the content of theresearch, and mentioning research limitations in this thesis.
