Dewey use “experience” as the basis of his aesthetics theory,which breaking the dualism of the traditional experience and bringabout the continuous between experience and nature. Experience isthe result of the interaction of organism and environment. Whenexperience has developed to a perfect state, it becomes what iscalled experience, then the experience can be developed toaesthetics experience and finally be evolved to art. The aestheticsoriginate from experience, the experience is finally lead to aesthetics,and the art works as the presentation of the aesthetics experience.Therefore, the art which includes aesthetics experience can not onlyrestore the continuity of life and art, but also expanded the scope ofthe art, at the same time, it also plays a role of explain thephenomenon in aesthetic field nowadays. Although there are someshortages in Dewey’s theory, the others are regarded as haverevolutionary meaning.This thesis is mainly analyzes six parts as follows.Introduction: Introducing the holistic evolution of the westernaesthetics of the twentieth Century briefly, highlighting the status ofDewey aesthetics in twentieth Century, analyzing the research trendsabout Dewey aesthetics in domestic and overseas. The first part: Experience is the departure point and thedestination point of Dewey aesthetics. Dewey use the method ofexperience to transform the traditional philosophy, abandoning thetraditional metaphysics, and creating a new theory of monism of theexperience. Dewey use the basic style of life activity as thefoundation of his theory, defines the “experience” as a behavior of theinteraction of living life and environment, links the art and the life.The second part: By the experience into the aesthetics, theaesthetics originated from the experience, but not all the dailyexperience have aesthetics, only one experience developed to theexperience which has integrity and sustainability can be calledaesthetics experience. The aesthetics experience of Deweyaesthetics has consciousness, imaginative and utility.The third part: Discussing the “art” which is deemed to have beenthe core of Dewey aesthetics. Art is not act blindly, also is not stay inthe formal or spiritual level, it must be with experience in relationshipand use experience as the content. Art can be taken as theintermediary of the spread of experience, thus art is an intenseexperience form and a delicate form.The fourth part: Elucidating the contemporary significance andthe daily life aesthetics of Dewey aesthetics. Aesthetics and lifegetting together is the trend of the aesthetics in the20th century,Dewey aesthetics plays an impellent role to this trend. Dewey’sviewpoints that including the continuity of the art and daily life、thecontinuity of high art and popular art、the continuity of beauty art andpractical art laid the ideological foundation for the aesthetics of dailylife. The fifth part: Evaluating Dewey aesthetics. The positiveinfluence of Dewey aesthetics is it makes the research of aestheticexperience become more perfection and provides a theoreticalfoundation for daily life aesthetics. The continuous of experience andart expand the scope of the art, promote the progress of humanity.The limitation of Dewey aesthetics is it extends the scope of theaesthetic experience to everything and includes all of the experienceso that the crisis of the aesthetic generalization is appeared, whichlead to the boundaries of art and life is vague.
