Larry McMurtry is regarded as one of the interpreters of American west and classic novelist.His masterpiece--Lonesome Dove not only breaks the traditional creation pattern of Americanwestern novels, but also infuses quite a few creation techniques of postmodernism. After thepublication of Lonesome Dove, his works presented obvious postmodernism tendency. Publishedafter Lonesome Dove, Anything for Billy also has obvious postmodernist features. The thesisexplores the postmodernist features of Anything for Billy from the perspective of postmodernismtheory, aiming to deepen the understanding and researches on Anything for Billy.Guided by postmodernism theory, the thesis analyzes postmodernist features in Anything forBilly at detail. The thesis is made up of five chapters. Chapter one introduces Larry McMurtry andhis works Anything for Billy, and the structure of the thesis. Chapter two interprets the text from theperspective of indeterminacy, analyzing the indeterminacy of theme, plot and protagonists. Chapterthree interprets the text from the perspective of deconstruction of binary oppositions, analyzing thedeconstruction of binary oppositions of male vs female, justice vs evil and sense vs emotion.Chapter four interprets the text from the perspective of antihero, analyzing the antiherocharacteristics of Billy. Chapter five concludes previous analysis, draws the conclusion thatAnything for Billy has obvious postmodernist features, points out limitations and proposessuggestion for future study.
