The Research Of Galen Strawson’s Neo-neobehaviorism

This paper probes into Galen Strawson’s neo-neobehaviorism, focusing on the making and analytical process of his neo-neobehaviorism.Centering on the object of study and emphasis of work, the process of demonstrating of this article is as follows:Chapter1, first of all, does a brief combing of behaviorism ideas in philosophy of mind with emphasis on analyzing the development process from analytical behaviorism to neobehaviorism, the main content and drawbacks of analytical behaviorism ideas and the main ideas of neobehaviorism.Chapter2focuses on Galen Strawson’s analysis and challenges to the ideology of the neobehaviorism, including re-analysis of sense and propositional attitudes. Through analysis and demonstration, he comes to different conclusions with those of analytical behaviorism and neobehaviorism:The mental concepts cannot be satisfactorily explained through the analysis of behavior and dispositions to behavior. In the correct explanation about the nature of mental phenomenon, behavior doesn’t deserve the position which people usually think it does.Chapter3mainly explains the Galen Strawson’s reanalysis and complement of the concept of behavior. In Galen Strawson’s opinion, the original concept of behavior is incomplete. Just because the original behaviorism sticks to such incomplete concept of behavior, the behaviorism becomes difficult and struggling. If we want to save behaviorism from a complete death, it is necessary to expand the concept of behavior and to embrace the inner mental activities. Thus, behavioral concepts could have a larger space for theoretical explanation. The end of this chapter summarized the main viewpoint of Galen Strawson’s ideology of neo-neobehaviorism.Based on combing of the full text, Chapter4summarizes and evaluates ideological research methods and characteristics of Galen Strawson’s neo-neobehaviorism.
