On C-E Translation Of Entertainment Program Subtitles

Screen translation is a unique kind of translation with distinctive characteristics because the process of screen translation involves not only the word translation but also the media means of conversion. It demands the subtitle translation express the figures’ words, intension and the situation. The reason that I choose this program is that this is a real translation practice which I met during the internship in Beijing TV station. Since there is little study of the translation of subtitles of such a program, this paper tries to work out some translation strategies according to language features and technical restrictions and principles by this real program.By now, after studying the subtitle C-E translation of this program, the author of this paper agrees to the consensus reached by most scholars that we should adopt different strategies when translating because different programs have different features, audience and purposes. In addition, with the restrictions of time, space and other factors, the principles of conciseness and popularity, and the reference to other scholars’ research fruits, the translation strategies of entertainment programs are summarized in the paper and it is hoped this research can provide some reference and suggestions for the entertainment program subtitle translation.
