The expressionist movement in the early twentieth Century, mainly in Germany andAustria. In1914, Paul Fechter tried to expressionism explicitly defined in the first part ofthe theme of Monographs on expressionism. He thought the expressionism representingGermany’s anti Impressionism and Cubism, futurism movement, is parallel to the school.Fechter successfully completed the work for the term expressionism in general definedboundaries delineated so far still effective. In constant development, expressionism artistsgradually separated from the genres,"Expressionism" concept gradually fixed.At the beginning of twentieth Century, Germany since the "bridge club" in the future,through print, expressionism and made important achievements. In Germany, the print as aseparate form to be accepted by people, has made great achievements.The German expressionist prints concern, the development culture, art, science andpolitics makes clear the German expressionist art pursuit and change direction, namelyfinding a pristine, a direct and simple art. But the past especially Gauguin of primitive art andJapanese painting esteem, make Africa and Pacific islands of the original national art and theart of East Asia by German Expressionism artists concern, and bring their art inspired. But thenew art pattern needs to find the most suitable language of expression, because only to newforms of schemata and language of the perfect combination of the full show the artist’s innerspiritual pursuit. And especially woodcut prints due to its unique language--summary, tough,direct features than painting is more suitable for the representation of the artist’s pursuit,provides the solution for the German expressionist art change. This is also the decisive significance of printmaking language.Mar Beckmann is a representative figure of German expressionist movement, the newobjectivity is known, but in the early nineteenth Century Beckmann achievement. In theGerman Expressionism, print art has always been important, Beckmann is no exception.Beckmann in1916to1925many prints, some prints and paintings of Beckmann has a great similarity, mostly for the same manuscript, but also because of the influence of other factors.On the other hand, is because the method show the shape similarity, Beckmann used thestraight line to generalize the form, emphasizing the contour shape and the terminator, ignorethe physical texture and light, highlights the sense of volume.
