Visual language, as communication symbols of the art of decoration for themonasteries throughout the Tibetan Autonomous Region, has been deeply embedded inevery corner of the monasteries. Visual language there overflows with religiouscharacteristics and individuality of the national identity.Based on the painstaking data collection and analysis, the paper targets at exploringthe main forms of art, the diverse elements, as well as the design and application of thevisual language in Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Region under the influence of TibetanBuddhism.The paper consists of five chapters. After a brief introduction of the researchbackground, contents, purpose and methods, the first chapter summarizes the current statusof religion in Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Region and Labrang Monastery area. Exploringthe introduction of Tibetan Buddhism and its development in Labrang Monastery area inthe second chapter, the paper goes to great lengths to unveil in the third the main forms ofartistic presentation of the visual languages, which are analyzed thoroughly in threeperspectives: pattern language, color language and visual composition in the fourth. Andthe fifth provides an in-depth analysis on the design and application of the visual languagein the Tibetan Autonomous Region and insightful reflection upon its development in thefuture.
