With the continuous advance in the process of reform and opening up, Chinese society has had rapid economic development, while facing a series of social problems and social conflicts. Among them, the ever increasing gap between the rich and the poor, the severe employment pressure, the issues of the poor and disadvantaged groups, and the relief of sudden-onset natural disaster, is increasingly becoming a prominent problem in today’s society; Therefore, when the government rescued, the development of private participation in the socialist charity characteristics career gradually became to the important approach of improving people’s livelihood and building a harmonious society. At present, responsibilities of the charity in the socialist way forward on the economic, political and cultural has become the consensus of the government and the private sector, various forms of charity practice has also gained a positive response from all levels of society. However, due to the charity construction lag in legislation, in cultural as well as in theory, the development of philanthropy in China is also in dilemma.In brief, which charity approach should the modern China take? The theoretical study and the construction seems to be out of touch with current charity practices, therefore to clarify the Chinese socialist characteristics of charity in the level of theory is particularly important and urgent.The thesis is divided into five parts:The first part of the thesis is the introduction, mainly summarized this paper’s selected topic significance, research status, research ideas and research methods, and innovation.In the second part, explains the connotation of the theory of Philanthropy with Chinese Socialism Characteristics, including the historical evolution of the concept of "philanthropy" and the basic connotation of the theory of philanthropy with Chinese Socialism Characteristics.The third part of the thesis summarized the course of development of the theory of Philanthropy with Chinese Socialism Characteristics, in accordance with the time period, it is divided into three stages:the embryonic stage of the theory of Philanthropy with Chinese Socialism Characteristics before the founding of New China, tortuous stages of development of the theory of Philanthropy with Chinese Socialism Characteristics in early, as well as the new horizon and new stage of development the theory of Philanthropy with Chinese Socialism Characteristics since the reform and opening up.The fourth part of the thesis pointed out the problems existed in contemporary socialism with Chinese characteristics philanthropic practices, and then did some theoretical analysis from the historic social development and the research lag, the hinder of the social background of "big government, small society".The fifth part of the paper, discussed the future development and innovation of the theory of Philanthropy with Chinese Socialism Characteristics. First of all, to put efforts to achieve the theory of philanthropy from Marxism view in China; Secondly, we must realize the contemporary transformation of Philanthropy with Chinese Socialism Characteristics.
