After President Barack Obama took office, he started adjusting the U.S. globalstrategy, bringing two wars to a close and increasing attention and investment in theAsia-Pacific region. This policy return is obviously aimed at containing a rising China. Therefore, this thesis, from offensive realist perspective, analyzed AmericanAsia-Pacific strategies from the political, military and economic dimensions and hasfound out to what extent America’s strategy in the Asia-Pacific region is targeted atChina and how Sino-U.S. relations will evolve. Analysis was made based on literaturereview and archival research which includes data from websites of regionalorganizations, from governments of different countries, research institutions andpublic libraries as well as from speeches by American statesmen and scholars.Thorough analysis of U.S. policy shift leads to such conclusions: there are commoninterests between China and the United States and they have their own considerations,so war between the two countries is impossible, and they can peacefully coexist basedon mutual respect for each other’s core interests and close cooperation.
