This article will tempt to sort out and explore the Tocqueville’s standpoints aboutthe joint of the citizens. Tocqueville take use of politics, history, psychology,sociology and a variety of techniques to conduct a comprehensive analysis of ademocratic society and make a reasonable prediction, this work makes his system ofthought extremely heterogeneous. Different researchers Tocqueville on the differentgenres to be studied. The mainstream sound claims that the relationship betweenfreedom and equality is the central ideal of Tocqueville. But Hennessey and Broomeinterpret Tocqueville form the perspective of Rousseau, point out that therelationships between freedom and solidarity, individual and Community is the themeof Tocqueville. This article does not intend to conduct a comprehensive investigationabout Tocqueville, but to start from the areas which the scholar is scarely referred tohow individuals joint together in a democratic age in order to achieve free.The introduction briefly describes Tocqueville thought, background, briefsummary of the study of Tocqueville, and illustrates that the author will sort out anddemonstrate the idea of Tocqueville from the perspective of civil union.The first chapter deals with the historical and ideological background of the newpolitical science, and social situation in France after the Revolution and the greatdebate about French democracy. Tocqueville’s democratic ideals was born in thiscritical moment, he discussed the inevitability of the advent of democracy. Thequestion which France faced is not how to restore the old system or the path of aconstitutional monarchy, but to accept the democratic rule under the followingpremise: how to lead democracy to freedom.The second chapter discusses the social conditions by comparing aristocracy withdemocracy, Tocqueville keenly aware of the modern crisis of the democratic people inthe spiritual realm, and thus lead to full control of the new despotism of politicalworld.In Chapter Three, to point against the crises that may arise in a democratic age, I came out with Tocqueville’s Redemption road—Civic united.
