While the increased studies have been performed on the utilization of the NIR emission of lanthanide ions in bio-imaging, optical electroluminescent, and laser materials, it remains an interesting pursuit of new kinds of Ln3+-based optical materials with good luminescent properties. Especially, the Nd(Ⅲ)-based complexes are of particular interest in preparing OLED materials with NIR luminescence. However, since the Laporte-forbidden f-f transitions can prevent direct excitation of the photoluminescence due to the low absorption coefficients, organic ligands should be selected as the chromophores to effectively sensitize the NIR luminescence of Nd3+ion. Considering their relatively low stability and bad plasticity, they were usually applied through incorporation into stable organic and inorganic matrices to get doped or grafted hybrid materials. In contrast to the difficulty to obtain the high homogeneity and the easy processing for those doped hybrid materials with weak interactions between, trapping Nd3+complexes in polymer backbones with covalently bonds should be a good approach to overcome the limits. In this thesis, based on the two Sal en-type Schiff-base ligands H2L1(N, N’-bis(3-methoxysalicylidene)ethylene-1,2-diamine) and H2L2(N, N’-bis(3-methoxy-salicylidene)-phenylene-1,2-diamine) with different linkers, two series of hetero-binuclear Zn-Ln com plexes [Zn(L1)(4-VP)Ln(NO3)3](Ln=La,1; Ln-Nd,2; Ln=Gd,3;4-VP=4-vin yl-pyridine) and [Zn(L2)(4-VP)Ln(NO3)3](Ln=La,4; Ln=Nd,5; Ln=Gd,6) were obtained, respectively. The intrinsic quantum yield of Nd(III) emission and energy-tra nsfer rate constant for these complexes were determined.Further through the physical doping and the controlled copolymerization with MM A (methyl methacrylate), two kinds of PMMA-supported hybrid materials, doped PMMA/[Zn(Ln)(4-VP)Ln(NO3)3](n=1,2) and metallopolymers Poly(MMA-co-[Zn(Ln)(4-VP)Ln(NO3)3])(n=1,2) were obtained, respectively, their energy-transfer rate con stants and the intrinsic quantum yields of Nd(III) emission were compared.Meanwhile, with two kinds of hybrid materials PMMA/[Zn(L1)(4-VP)Nd(NO3)3] and Poly(MMA-Co-[Zn(L1)(4-VP)Nd(N03)3]) based on ethylene-linked hetero-binuclear Zn2+-Nd3+complexes as the representatives, different feeding molar ratios1:50,1:100and 1:200for complex monomer to MMA were adopted to compare the Nd(III)-based NIR luminescent self-quenching.
