With the development of China’s shipbuilding industry, the production of marine air conditioners is increased. At present, R22is widely used in marine air conditioners, it has a certain damage to the environment and will be replaced soon. According to the newest Case of the Montreal Protocol, our country should prohibit and phase out HCFCs (including R22) in2030. It allows no delay to conduct application research on the new environment-friendly refrigerants used in marine air conditioners. The promising alternative refrigerants were R404A and R407C. Their ODP are zero and GWP are not high. They are environmentally friendly and have similar thermal properties to R22. As the near-term alternatives to R22, they worth study and promoteAs the speedy development of computer hardware and software technology, computer simulation technology has become an important means of air conditioning product development. It has a lot of advantages compared to traditional means, such as short development cycle, low development cost and high development efficiency. Marine air conditioners are high energy consumption equipments, their energy saving potential is tremendous. In the Global context of energy saving and environmental protection, using computer simulation technology to optimize the design of marine air conditioners has very important realistic meaningIn this paper, the performance experiments on a marine air conditioner using R404A, R407C and R22were conducted. Based on those experimental data, the steady state simulation analysis and optimal design calculation on R404A system were also conductedFirstly, the author conducted experiments on a marine air conditioner using R404A, R407C and R22, compared experimental results with the national standard of the energy efficiency ratio and preliminarily determine unit performance. Secondly, the theoretical physical property models of R404A, water and moist air were established; the compressor mathematic model was established based on ANSI/ARI540; the mathematical models of the condenser and evaporator were established based according to the steady state lumped parameter method; the system simulation mathematical model was established while the expansion was treated as a control device and its control method was blended in the system simulation algorithm. Then, simulation program is compiled with MATLAB software system, it is proved that the calculation results can be consistent with the experimental data well. Ultimately, the exergy analysis were conducted, and component which losses the maximum amount of the irreversible energy was found. Four optimization schemes of this component were proposed, and the performance of the optimization schemes were predicted by using simulation method, which provided reference to marine air-conditioner’s design and improvement work.
