With the rapid development of modern society, landscape design is no longer limited tonatural simulation, but it has a higher requirements. As everyone has their own personality, landscape design also needs to have its own uniqueness; it requires designers to include culture, thoughts, and characteristics in their art works. Reflected in the audience, people are no longersatisfy with the basic functional requirements, but they pursuit more advanced meanings inlandscape designs. Metaphor has cultural attribute, it can inherit traditional culture, highlightcultural connotation, and connect cultural with people. At the same time, metaphor changes withhuman development. Therefore for the landscape design, we should always follow the forefront ofthe times, constantly absorb new knowledge and learn new methods. Similarly, the landscapemetaphors are triggered by certain places, and they have a psychological effect and thecorresponding cognition between people and existence,, which establish metaphor forms and thecontrol relationships. Suggestive metaphor of historic landscape and traditional culture can notonly enrich landscape design content, but also increase the people are familiar with landscapedesign. Therefore, the more popular and complex metaphor it is, the more visual impact andartistic appeal it has become, so that it can meet the different levels of people’s sense of demand. But modernism has never face the classical language and essence of local dialect, that referencesto traditional or symbol not creative this is insufficient, this is also the reason why a lot oflandscape garden design are thin and lack of details. In the process of China’s rapid economic and culture development, landscape design strongly influenced by the inevitable international trend. International and local cultural collision is fully embodied in Chinese city landscapes. Today we explore the "application" of metaphor in landscape design, which is to think in such a background. Chinese landscape, should be neither "closed-door construction" nor"Westernization", and the final results should be "harmony but not Sameness", and "make foreign things serve china".We should see that, continuous innovation of landscape design and discussion of the traditional cultural, is an important way to solve the application in metaphor in landscape design. The application of aesthetic is a metric in the external, and the metaphor of spirit is a harmonious unity of heaven, earth, and human. How to achieve harmony? The key is metaphorical mental harmony rather than physical harmony. Therefore, proper use of metaphor in the landscape design has become a concern.
