Compared with traditional light source, LED light source has several advantages such as environmental pollution-free, long life cycle, small size, shock resistance, low power consumption, energy saving and so on. Now it is widely used in the fields of vehicle interior lighting, auxiliary equipment, street lighting and others. With the development of technology, LED lights are moving forward in the direction of headlamps. The use of LED headlamps can improve the life cycle, stability and reliability of headlights. LED has great potential in vehicle lighting industry, particularly developed as headlights, it is the most promising.In this paper, taking the Changzhou Xiang’an Auto Parts Factory as a launch-pad, the research is carried out for the design and key technologies of LED headlamps. It is not only for the analysis and research of the working principles of headlamps, but also paid more attention to the thermal design of the LED. In general, the specific research work is done in the following areas:1. First of all, through the analysis of current headlamps, the significance of the subject is being stated clearly. Then on the basis of the study on the situation and development of LED headlamps, it identifies the main research content and technology route.2. After the study of the GB, specify the technical requirements for headlamps. And then analyze the structure and characteristics of the traditional headlamp system and point out that there is a lack of tradition headlamps when it is in the light. Then describe some relevant knowledge of the LED and summarize the characteristics of LED lamps. After comparing the LED headlamps and traditional headlamps, derive the advantages of the LED headlamp system.3. Researches on the LED headlamp light distribution, structure and thermal issues are done. First, by analyzing the headlamp lighting requirements, the using number of the LED is estimated. Then put forward the headlamp lens design, use three-dimensional design software and optical simulation software to do simulation design for lens and get the model of lens. Through comparing LED headlamps and traditional light sources in ways of different thermal design and analyzing the junction temperature and thermal resistance of the LED, determine the radiating design of headlamps. And by using the finite element software, study the single factor of the thermal performance of LED headlamps and get the optimized radiator model.4. Research on the control problem of LED headlamps, which is also known as driving circuit, is one of the key technologies to the research and development of headlamps. First show details on its circuit design theory, connections and drive mode. Then bring forward the headlamp circuit control program. The advantage of this program is that with only very few external devices, it can still have a good performance.5. Make LED headlamp samples and set out lighting experiments and thermal experiments for samples. Through comparative analysis of experimental results of light with GB, identify the problems in lighting design and illustrating the subject of the light distribution scheme is feasible. The consistency of the results of the analysis of Temperature experimental results comparing with the simulation results tells the reasonableness of this thermal design.
