From the experiment study of the frost-heave character, there are obvious effectson frost-heave with different cooling process on cold side of soil sample. So this paperdesign two kinds of frost-heave indoor experiments of remodeling silty clay, one is incontinuous cooling mode which is control the cold side temperature keep constantly, theother one is in stepwise cooling mode which is control the cold side temperature coolingstep by step, then compare the affect of frost heaving characteristics in these twocooling mode. According to the experimental, in the same boundary conditions(moisture content, dry density, freezing temperature), stepwise cooling mode willpromote the moisture migration in soil, and enhance the moisture gathered within thesoil, so it has a larger amount of frost heave or frozen shrank, and frost heave rate orfrozen shrinkage rate is larger in stepwise cooling mode than continuous cooling mode.At the same time, according to the orthogonal experiment analysis, about the threeboundary conditions, the influence of the moisture content on frost heaving ratio is thelargest, and the impact is greater on stepwise cooling mode than continuous coolingmode.
