Objective: To observe the correlation between the change of serum highsensitivity C-reactive protein and the transformation, development and itsclinical implication of cerebral edema in patients with acute cerebralinfarction. Methods: According to NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) standardsof grading60patients with ACI were divided into three groups. Mild ACIgroup was scored from0-4points, moderate ACI group was scored from4-15points and severe group scored more than15points. The serumHs-CRP level of60patients with ACI were determined continuously onthe second day, the third, the fifth and seventh day after hospitalization.Meanwhile,60patients with ACI were detected the change of cerebralelectrical impedance turbulence coefficient of lesion cerebral hemisphereby BORN-BE-Ⅱ non-invasive brain edema monitor.40healthy subjectswas included as control group. Results: Hs-CRP level in ACI group weresignificant higher than control group on the second day, the third day, thefifth day and seventh day after hospitalization. The level on the third daywas higher than the second day, reaching a peak on the fifth day anddecreasing on the seventh day. The level of severe group was higher thanmoderate group, and moderate group was higher than mild group.Differences reached statistical significance (P<0.01, P<0.05). Thecerebral electrical impedance turbulence coefficient of lesion hemispherein ACI group were higher than normal amount after hospitalization. Itwas higher on the third day than the second day, reaching a peak on thefifth day and decreasing on the seventh day. The level of severe group was higher than moderate group, and moderate group was higher thanmild group. Differences reached statistical significance (P<0.05). Thelevel of serum Hs-CRP was positively correlated with severity of cerebraledema in patients with ACI (P<0.05). Conclusions: Hs-CRP might beclosely related to the formation and development of brain edema in ACIpatients. The level of Hs-CRP can be used as a guide for judging theseverity of cerebral edema on patients of ACI in clinical practice toprovide new indicators for diagnosis.
