Entecavir Combined With Traditional Chinese Medicine Treatment Of Chronic Hepatitis B In Meta Analysis

Objective To systematically evaluate the effects of integrative entecavir and traditional Chinese medicine in treating CHB.Methods Electronic searches was conducted to identify randomised controlled trials for comparing the effects of integrative traditional Chinese and entecavir versus the effects of entecavir alone in treating CHB. Methodological quality of trials was assessed in terms of generation of allocation sequence, allocation concealment, blinding, and intention-to-treat. Two authors collected data independently and evaluated quality and results. The data were quantified by Meta-analysis.Results Eighteen RCTs (1674CHB patients) were included.The methodological quality was generally low. Results of Meta-analysis showed that the integrative therapy has firm effect on HBeAg and HBV DNA decreasing to undetectable level (relative risk1.43[1.23,1.65] and1.08[1.01,1.15])and raising HBeAg seroconversion as well as ALT recovery (relative risk1.72[1.41,2.11] and1.22[1.11,1.34). The integrative therapy could also significantly reduce the HA (weighted mean difference-26.48[-38.49,-14.47])and LN (weighted mean difference-39.87[-49.91,-29.84]) and PC Ⅲ (weighted mean difference-35.46[-41.51,-29.41]) and Ⅳ-C (weighted mean difference-38.58[-53.18,-23.97]). Five studies reported non-serious adverse events,and spontaneous remission of all the symptoms did not interrupt the treatment.Conclusion The integrative therapy may have beneficial effects in HBeAg and HBV DNA decreasing to undetectable level, raising HBeAg seroconversion, raising ALT recovery and reducing hepatic fibrosis.The evidence is insufficient to come to the affirmative conclusion due to the low methodological quality of the included trials.
