Zhu Yuanzhang, one of the most legendary emperor in Chinese history, had the most tough life experience, the most glorious achievement and built the most creative political system. All these made him superior to any other emperor through Chinese history. The assessment of his achievements is important not to Ming history but to Chinese history as well. For hundreds of years, there have already been numerous such works on him as history, notes and novels, but because of the restriction of the research perspectives and approaches, the views on this great emperor seem to be very subjective and characterized, which may hinder the profound exploration on this issue. In view of this, the thesis focuses on social management with the macro-historical perspective arisen in historical circle. It is from brand new perspective and approaches to review the history after Zhu Yuanzhang’s foundation of Ming Dynasty, including his outstanding experience and thoughts in dealing with all-round national affairs, great political strategies and success and failures. Emphasis of this thesis also lies on the history background of his management, relations between social demands for various regulations and social structure and the profound social influence with early Ming society. An all-round, scientific and real review on Zhu Yuanzhang’s management ideology and practice here aims to contribute to his related research. There are three parts in the main body. Part One is mainly about Zhu Yuanzhang’s management ideology, aiming at analyzing its historical basis and complicated relations between Zhu Yuanzhang’s thoughts and trends, ideas and systems. Part Two focuses on Zhu Yuanzhang’s measurements and practice on social management. In the face of the chaos in early years of Ming Dynasty, what measures Zhu Yuanzhang took and how all these measures worked help to know and analyze thoroughly and subjectively about his social management. In Part Three, it is about the enlightenment of the management ideology and practice. Based on the basic theory and concept and Zhu Yuanzhang’s historical achievement, this part profoundly analyzes the historical lessons on management from four different analogical aspects:legal systems and rule by law, enforcement and inspiration, autocracy and democracy and static management and dynamic management. Finally, according to some extreme opinions, it is pointed out that some wrong political decisions shouldn’t only blame Zhu Yuanzhang, but should be reviewed subjectively, historically and dialectically from all aspects like special historical background, personal experience, traditional culture, social and historic transition and lack of wise emperors.
