Julia Anna Si Virtue And Its Implications

Virtue as a social ideal is worth pursuing, it has been discussed for all time. But the way of discussing ever be changed, each representative of virtue explain condensates a profound understanding of the notion of "Virtue". Contemporary American philosopher-Julia Annas does a meticulous and insightful research about the problems of virtue, and refers to all kind of the previous virtues explanation, then she put up the new interpretation of the intelligent virtue. She reveals that the virtue concept not only includes the external disposition of action, but also includes internal intellectual activity and emotional state, in which the practical intelligence contains the understanding and the sensitivity of the context, and also contains an overall grasp of virtue.In this paper, using skill analogy as clues, I analysed the nature of virtue, the obtaining of virtue and the relationship between virtue and happiness, explained the development of virtue. Meanwhile, I introduced the social embedded-context of virtue, the pleasure of virtue and the unity of virtue, and finally illustrates how virtue is constitutive (wholly or in part) of the agent’s happiness or flourishing. Studing Julia Annas’s intelligence virtue is of great significance to enrich and develop the concept of virtue, lay a further foundation for future Virtue Ethics research, and also provide a good platform for us to deal with the moral problems.
