Painting Is An Attitude

Lucian-Freud is one representative in the field of current British realistic painting, whose later works showed the perception of human’s profound psychology in figuration, and revealed the loneliness, melancholy and helplessness of contemporary social groups. Freud focused on the portrait painting through his life and he seldom left his own studio during his painting in his old age. The works of this period was more burly and sophisticated with concise and deep use of color, and the moderately exaggerated model was full of visual impact.This paper made a discussion through three chapters. Through the discussion of composition form, intrinsic color’s use and exaggerated figure model, the first part expounded the style of his later works. The second part expounded the importance of sketch, discussing separately the inherent meaning and significance in two sections. The third part was thinking on the current basic training and had a discussion on the various problems of high school students exposed in the basic training, and talked about the inspiration for our sketch with the combination of the Freud’s creative way, finally applied to respective artistic creation, which was to emphasize the combination of organic basic sketching and personality development.This paper was not a research article on Freud, just strived to explore the style of the master from some fragments:from the choice of characters by the master, it talked about how we captured the first impressions of the painted model; from the master’s molding style, it talked that the beauty of the screen was not exactly same as the beauty of mundane life. It talked about some superficial feelings on inspiration of own class sketch, and thus combining with own job, had a thinking on the problems in the basic training of high school students. Sketch was a kind of perseverance, and an attitude subjectively. It faced the diversified demands to sketch of today’s students, and on the pursuit of personality in sketch and avoided the fuss of deformation for the deformation and put an end to the mechanical copy and tracing without any passion. Just as advocated by Mr. Dong Xiwen:shape should be embodied with feeling and color should be rich in feeling.
