‘Superhero’ is the hero of the fantasy, which has special abilities beyond theaverage, and often accompanied by some unusual feats and heroic behaviors.American cartoon was the Superhero’s main stage, after the prevalence of40s,60sand80s, which ushered the new golden age in2000. Data statistics showed that from2000to2012, Hollywood made the film of "super hero" topic adapted from comicaccounts for less than1%of film production, but its market share has exceeded10%.A new golden age of ‘Superhero’ is closely combined with film and brings movieswith high reputation and box office records. On the other hand, the film of"Superhero" topic adapted from comic is also often linked to values, spreadingAmerican values. The prevalence of ‘Super hero’indicates that movies owningentertaining as well as the mainstream values can be completely achieved and it alsocan be the reference to study how American films adapted from comic linked‘Superhero’ with conservatism.From the perspectives of character and subject matter, this study had acomprehensive understanding of ‘Superhero’ in American films adapted from comic,which paid attention to both its formation process as a film character and inspectingits narrative structure as film topic. Moreover, within the analytical framework ofstructuralistic narratology, this study focused on the mainstream American valueswhich spread behind the entertainment and business of ‘Superhero’ and concretelyanalyzed conservatism as an example. First, the author combed films adapted fromcomic from two big companies——Detective Comics and Marvel Comics. Next, theauthor viewed and analyzed the character formation and narrative structure of29films adapted from comic belonging to DC and MARVEL. Then, the author usedstatistical methods to calculate the narrative unit and frequency of29related films.To be specific, the author measured the reappearance of31kinds of functions and6kinds of narrative units proposed by Propp. in American films adapted from comicand analyze its company, series and director’s influence on the narrative unit ofAmerican films adapted from comic. From the social background of American films adapted from comic, the author analyzed the core reflected by its characterformation and narrative structure——the American conservative values.The study found that American films adapted from comic, especially which of"Superhero" topic has become a new type of film. It showed regularized characterformation and stereotyped narrative structure. The new golden age’s ‘Superhero’actants changed ranging from ‘order’ to ‘disorder’ and from ‘good’ to ‘evil’, whoserelative displacement also showed ‘good to evil’; while the identity and personalitytraits of "super hero" were becoming more and more complex, gradually beginningto get rid of the category of Forster’s ‘cartoon character’(‘flat character’). Narrativestructure design of ‘Superhero’ topic was high consistent with narrative unitproposed by Propp and both of which reflected the core value of Americanconservatism in the form of ‘exaggeration and amplification’.
