The dance and music of Christianity are key contents of christian culture as well as vital media of disseminating Christianity. From the perspective of adaptivity and transformation, this paper studies the christian music and dance of lisu ethnic in Lushui area, analyzing the motivation, roots and display of Christianity in the process of dispread and development and its impacts on Lisu social culture in Lisu area.The introduction firstly illustrates the background and significance of this research, reviews related literature, introduces the methodologies and the general situation of filed sit. Then interprets the traditional music and dance of Lisu minority and its importance to Lisu society. By the analysis of the functions of the songs and dances performed by Lisu wizard ’Nipa’ and ’Bipa’ in the ritual of climbing knife ladder and crossing fire sea, this paper lays the foundation for the development and transformation of dance and music of Christianity.The core part of this paper generalizes the characteristic of the transformation of Christianity and its music and dance in Lushui area:the burgeoning stage of the invent of Lisu writing and music stave by foreign missioner Frazer in the first part of20C; the initial development of christian music by local missioners from1949to1957; the development of christian music and the burgeoning stage of its dance during the recovery phase from1981to1995; the prosperity in the rapid development. To look into the interior and exterior motivation and roots of the transformation of christian music and dance in different periods.In the end, this paper emphasizes on the historic transformation of christian music and dance and its social impacts. Taking Lisu people in Lushui as an example, I found out that the steps of christian music’s step from church to society and its counterpart with dance proves to be the evidence of adaption to the changeable society. On one side allows for the dissemination and development of Christianity, and on the other side, it displays the coexistence of sacred and profane character of Christianity.
