Chinese learning boom continues to heat up, more and more short-term Chinese project in American Universities settled in China. These short-term Chinese projects have a prominent feature-great emphasis on the use of the target language in a variety of languages and cultural resources to help the projects’students to improve their Chinese quickly, meanwhile, get a better understanding of Chinese culture. This behavior should be popularized in Chinese as a foreign language teaching profession at home and abroad.In order to understand the short-term projects’students in using the language and cultural resources under the target language background in China, find the problems and the teaching methods in Chinese as a foreign language, this issue do a survey from the Columbia University Summer Chinese Program’s (short for "CIB" project) students to use the language and cultural resources in the target language environment for the language acquisition and cultural acquisition. The survey mainly conducted by questionnaires and interviews. Investigating the CIB project’s students how to use the resources of the target language environment, I mainly make use of the following aspects:the language partner, the Chinese family projects, cultural tours and amateur life. The survey shows that the overall situation is better for CIB project’s students to use the language and cultural resources of the target language environment. Students benefit from these resources in learning Chinese and understanding Chinese cultures. The students’ favorite projects are that the project of cultural tours and language partner. These two projects play a crucial role in both Chinese acquisition and culture acquisition for students. Daily life is also a foremost language and cultural resource which is used frequently. Because of the heavy schoolwork, most students have not enough time in chatting, so CIB project’s students for the using of family resources in China are not very good.
