Huangfu Has Studied

Huangfu Zen is an important poet from Tianbao to Zhenyuan years of Tang Dynasty, as well as one of the most influential poets of Dali Poetry. Known as the "Double Huangfu" with his elder brother Huangfu Ran, Huangfu Zen has always been praised by future generations. His significance in the study of Dali Poetry can be adequately proved by his many times’ involvement in the selection of "Ten Wit of Dali Years" by the later poetics critics. This thesis, concentrated on Huangfu Zen’s individual life and his verses, is majorly aimed to looking into the version circulation of his works and chronicles of his evaluation with an integrated method combining Philology, Literature and Logic after comprehensively validating his life experience on the basis of previous fragmented research and chronologically proofreading and annotating his poetry. Also, this thesis with a comprehensive respect for Huangfu Zen tries to study his poetic style and artistic pursuit, considering his life experience and mentality through the combination of empirical research and textual studies.This thesis is separated into three chapters:The first chapter is the validation of Huangfu Zen’s life experience. In this chapter, the validation is divided into7parts, chronologically showing the6phases of Huangfu Zen’s life from his birth to his death, trying to bring out his life vividly, with the combination of methods of documentary evidence and logical reasoning.The second chapter is the version study and the proofreading and annotation of Huangfu Zen’s poetry on the basis of previous research. The author has been to libraries, including National Library of China and Nanjing Library, to conduct one-by-one investigation and research of the existing version of Huanghu Zen’s poetry, also has organized and analyzed its version circulation and done textual collation.The third chapter is the research of the spread and estimation of Huangfu Zen’s poetry. This chapter, firstly, on the basis of previous studies, summarized the ideological content and genre of Huangfu Zen’s poetry; secondly, studied his personal artistic pursuit through textual analysis of concrete poetry and comparative analysis with the contemporary poems with the same motifs; finally, considering the later references and evaluation of Huangfu Zen’s poetry, briefly studied the spread and estimation of his works.
