The culture of Chinese clothing has a long history. Developing along with the changing time, the function of clothes is changing as well.The original function is protecting human body from cold and hurt. Then clothes are used to identify the social status and classes between different group of people. After that,they become representing different taste of aesthetics. And finally they become a symbol of a nation’s civilization.In the long process of development of history,every certain social environment had its unique style and feature.These factors are influenced and decided by social background, such as the condition of economy,culture and policy. Meanwhile,they show us the differences between different dynasties in a visualized way.The earliest Chinese figure paintings were emerging from the culture of colored pottery in Neolithic Age. Although they were not maturity at that moment, they became the basic foundation of development of Chinese elaborate-style painting.Tang dynasty was a historical peak of Chinese meticulous figure painting.In that period of time, a great number of outstanding artists and famous works were emerged.The painters are included Yan Liben, Zhang Xuan, Zhou Fang and so on.Song dynasty was an important time for developing meticulous figure painting. Under the influence of "Chen and Zhu theory", the art works which were created in that time are tending to be simple and grace, and more likely to obtain interesting things from objects.In this article, Chinese meticulous figure painting is taken as a subject. Through studying on the clothing style in Chinese meticulous figure paintings in Tang and Song dynasties, it provides us a better way of interpreting and appreciating art works in those periods.This paper contains four parts. The first part is referred to the development of clothing style in Chinese meticulous figure paintings. The second part is discussing how the social influence of Tang and Song dynasties worked on the clothing style. The third part is concerning about the development of Chinese meticulous figure paintings in Tang and Song dynasties. The fouth part is focusing on the feature of lines and colors, which are using to create the style of clothing.Through studying on this four parts, the awareness of understanding Tang and Song dynasties’s clothing style in Chinese meticulous figure paintings will be increased, the ability of analyzing art works in that two great periods will be promoted, and the skills of drawing Chinese meticulous figure paintings will be improved...
