Akutagawa Ryunosuke (1892-1927)is a famous short story writer in the TaishoPeriod in Japan. He is not only the immortal example in the Japanese literature world,but also occupies an important position in the history of the world literature. He hasmany works based on the classical Chinese novel, or in the background of China. So alarge number of Chinese researchers put great attention for him.This thesis is demarcated by Akutagawa’s China travel, summing up the Chinesewomen in his works by three periods, and discusses the Chinese women in differentperiod and different works to show their characters, minds and manifested needs, thusexplores the author’s outlook on life, art style, the congition of China and the changeof his writing career.In the works before China travel, this thesis will mainly discuss the Chinesewomen in "Christ of Najing","Du Zichun","Singular re-encounter" and " Happyencounter". They are based on Akutagawa’s Chinese classical literature readingexperience and his happy imagination. They carry Akutagawa’s pursuit of the goodemotion and the initially fantasy of China. In the works during China travel, thisthesis will mainly discuss the Chinese women in "China travel". They are createdafter direct contact between Akutagawa and Chinese women. They performanceAkutagawa’s attitude of modern Chinese women, as well as the understanding ofmodern China. In the works after China travel, this thesis collects Chinese women in"Letter from the fourth husband","Spring night" and "Fairy". They reflect theliterature concept "brutality beauty" and the inner world of Akutagawa before suicide.Chinese women as a special group in Akutagawa’s works is changing byAkutagawa’s motivation of writing. By trying to find out their development process,we can learn what happened in Akutagawa’s life and how Akutagawa thinks in acertain degree.
