Due to the time limitation in SI, the interpreters are demanded to take multipletasks such as listening, translating, speaking, which brings a lot of pressure for them. Inorder to fulfill this multiple tasks, it is necessary to use principle of Syntactic Linearitywhich is the primary principle of SI. This thesis provides four methods: Segmentation;Amplification; Repetition; Conversion. English sentences tend to be longer than thosein Chinese, so the interpreter has to use the method of segmentation. Due to thedifferences of syntax between English and Chinese, interpreters should useamplification, repetition and conversion to avoid inappropriate translation. This thesisanalyzes the interpretation of Mr. Lu Xinchao at four international meetings in2008from the perspective of the application of the four strategies. Hopefully, through thisthesis’s study, some reference can be provided to interpreters and interpreting learners.
