This thesis mainly focuses on the relationship between Britain and the integrationof Europe. While Britain is one of important members of the European Union, therelationship between them is so complicated that arouses great attention of researchers. In January2013, British prime minister David Cameron put forward the negotiationswith the EU in the future, and by the end of2017a nationwide referendums onwhether Britain stays in or out of the EU will be held. Although Britain joined theEuropean Community finally, it did not integrate into the EC completely. The goal ofthis thesis is to analyze the influencing factors in the process of British joining the EC,to better understand the current relationship between Britain and the EU.This thesis will analyzes the internal and external influencing factors in theprocess of British joining the EC. The main reason for Britain adjusted its Europeanpolicy on integration and proposed the intention of being a part of the EU is thatBritain had its own political and economic considerations. Besides, the policy of theUnited States also influenced the process greatly. In addition, this thesis also analyzesthe influencing factors in Europe in the process.Reviewing the process of British joining the EC and the various factors that affectthe process, we can draw a conclusion that British basic position on Europeanintegration has not changed. Britain still adheres to its superpower dreams and doesn’twant to be merged into the EU completely. It vigorously promotes a balancediplomatic policy between the United States and the EU on behalf of its interests.British basic position on European integration determines that it can not fullyintegrated into the Europe and the contradictions and differences between them isunlikely to vanish.
